NYC vs MaxFactor

Today a comparison of lip stains, by NYC and MaxFactor.
Since the MF lip stains I’m a huge fan op lip stains, because I love a nice lip color but lipstick can be an inconvenience sometimes. When NYC was available here I had to try their lip stains as well.

So far I’ve tested both brands a couple of times and I’m going to compare the lip stains on the following points:
- Do they live up to their promises?
- Consistency, scent and application
- Pigmentation
- Color variation
- Price

This is what Max factor says about their lip stains:
Lipfinity Lip Tint Pen has a non-transferable water based formula that doesn't just sit on top of your lips but permeates the upper layers for a stunning kiss-proof effect. And its nifty pen applicator is perfect for precise application so you can build up the color as much as you dare or keep it light and simple – you're in control!
And this is what NYC has to say about theirs:
NYC New York Color Smooch Proof 16HR Lip Stain stays put, providing a sheer to intense flush of color that sticks around longer than most guys in the City. This is no on-again, off-again relationship. Color stays faithful for up to 16 hours. Looking for happily ever after for a very happy price?
Let your lips do the charming!
So, I haven’t tried yet, but I’m pretty sure they are both kiss proof. And both lip stains wear off after a while, but a very long while. But they both survive a night out on the town very well. I’m not sure if NYC can keep the promise of 16 hours, but to me it lasts long enough. The only thing about the ones from MF is that they take a lot longer to dry. About 20 minutes ago I made swatches on my hand for pictures and the ones from MF are still smudgeable while the ones by NYC are completely dry and won’t smudge at all. So that is a big plus for NYC.

Both consistencies are a little different from each other.  Max Factor is a little bit stickier which can be annoying since they take a while to dry. The ones by NYC are watery and apply like a dream. I have noticed that there is a difference in the consistency of the 2 lip stains by MF because one is a lot sheerer  then the other.
The scents are also different. MF is very sour with a bit of sweet and very present, while the ones by NYC are also a tiny bit sour but not present at all. This is different for every person so that’s up to you whether you mind or not. As for taste, the ones from MF taste a little sweet on your lips.
The application of both lip stains is really easy because of the tip. The ones from NYC are a bit longer and pointier which is both good and bad. It can be a bit more precise but it’s also easier to accidentally draw next to your lips. And since they don’t come off as easy as a lipstick it could be an inconvenience.

Max factor has, as far as I’ve read and heard, 8 different shades available. A nice variety of colors, but they are all a little on the “safe side”. A lot of pinks, reds and browns, but nothing very out there.
I must say that the pigmentation of the two colors is different, but very good. Especially the red one has amazing pigmentation.
NYC has 10 different shades, but all pinks and purples. So if you like very neutral colors I think Max Factor is your best option. If you like very bold colors or just really like pinks and purples then I’d definitely check out NYC. The pigmentation of these two are both really good and bright.

And when it comes to prices I’d say that NYC is a very, very good budget option. MaxFactor is more of a mid price product.
NYC costs you €3,99 while MaxFactor is €11,99. Also, the lip stains by NYC are a bit bigger than the ones from MF. NYC has 3 ml but I can't find how much MF has.

So far I think NYC has a little advantage over MaxFactor when it comes to consistency, scent, color range and price. I decided to eat an apple while wearing NYC and it stayed on perfectly, which is why I love lip stains better than lip sticks. (:

Hopefully you guys enjoyed reading this and that I gave you a good comparison. This is the first comparison I did so I really hope it was clear and good to read, though I think it might be a bit on the long side.

xoxo
